Tour Guide & Day Trips

The City of St. James along with the St. James Chamber of Commerce eagerly await your visit! The St. James Tourist Information Center, located at Exit 195 on I-44, gladly welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

The Tourism staff make it their priority to ensure visitors will have an enjoyable experience. If you have a group of 10 or more, and would like to arrange for a step-on tour guide please telephone (800) 480-3899.

The St. James Tourist Information Center provides tour groups several opportunities:

  • Assistance with scheduling agendas.
  • Gathering place for tours where complimentary refreshments would be provided.
  • Tourism staff will send visitor packets within following business days.

FIve Area Wineries

St. James has been making history for over 80 years with award-winning wines and hundreds of acres of vineyards sprawling through the Ozarks Highland Viticultural area. An ideal climate and terrain make for an excellent harvest.

Ferrigno Winery (est. 1982 )
Winery overlooks the 16-acre vineyard, owned and operated, by Dick & Susan Ferrigno. The winery produces 10 estate-bottled wines. While there, enjoy the large-shaded wine garden and deck, walking trail, and authentic tasting room.

Heinrichshaus Winery (est. 1979)
This rustic winery nestled in its natural environment produces six delicious wine varieties by Heinrich Grohe. Also, bring a picnic lunch and spend some time at their terrace.

Meramec Vineyards Winery (est. 2000 )
Taste and savor their wines ranging from the dry Euro to semi-sweet and sweet American Tradition. Enjoy a tasty lunch at the Bistro d'Vine, view the work of local artists, and play Bocce in the garden.

Peaceful Bend Winery (est. 1972)
Clyde & Katie Gill offer award-winning wines, a countryside wine garden, and relaxation! Renew your spirit at their countryside Bed & Breakfast and hike the natural trails.

St. James Winery (est. 1970 )
The largest winery in Missouri with over 120 acres of vineyards that produce 23-award winning wines by the Hofherr family. Be sure to take part in touring the state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.

More Things to See and Do

Maramec Spring Park
Operated by the James Foundation, Maramec Spring Park contains one of the largest springs in Missouri with an average daily water flow of 100,000,000 gallons of water.

Take pleasure in the history of the Park, since it was the site of the first successful Iron Works west of the Mississippi River. Two onsite museums, restaurant, and store offer an enjoyable experience.

Route 66
Travel a portion of the "Mother Road" in St. James and experience the history of the Route.

St. James Bike Trail
Fun for the entire family! New Eight-mile traill that is intended for bicyclists, hikers, in-line skaters, joggers, and handicapped users.

St. James Golf Club
New guests and members are welcome at this challenging, semi-private 9-hole course with grass greens and watered fairways.

Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
Boys & Girls Town of Missouri is committed to helping children discover the best in themselves. Campus is located on 250 acres with approximately 35 acres containing the central core of this beautiful campus. Please telephone (573) 265-3251 to schedule a tour.

Missouri Veterans Home & Cemetery
St. James is the site of the first state veterans home. It was originally opened in 1896 by the Women's Relief Corps Soldiers' Home Association, and was deeded to the State of Missouri in 1897.

Waterways

Nearby rivers such as the Current, Huzzah, and Meramec offer outdoor enthusiasts several options: canoeing, kayaking, floating, rafting, and fishing. For information on resorts and campgrounds, please call the St. James Tourist Information Center at (573) 265-3899.

Shops and Eateries

The downtown St. James area provides an exclusive shopping experience with local hospitality and friendliness. Antique stores, flag professionals, specialty and apparel shops, and gift stores line the downtown corridor.

A variety of eateries are also available to satisfy your appetite ranging from home cooking, bistro, deli, and coffee house. American, Italian, and Chinese restaurants offer excellent options.
