CITY OF ST. JAMES
The City of St. James Welcomes You
As the St. James Tourism Director, I have the great pleasure to encourage you to "Discover the Ozarks Best." St. James is a unique city along Historic Route 66 full of heritage and community pride, which is evident in Boys & Girls Town of Missouri, Camp Brimshire and the Missouri Veterans Home.
Five local wineries and hundreds of acres of vineyards in the Ozark Highland Viticultural Area guarantee that visitors will have an enjoyable experience. The Ozark Highlands include Missouri's greatest number of vineyards and wineries. In the mid-1800's, Italian immigrants planted the area's first vineyards. Today, the tradition is growing as we are producing more wines and becoming distinguished throughout the United States. Daily wine tours, samples and souvenirs are offered at the wineries. Please visit our Calendar of Events page, to see the various events scheduled at the wineries this year.
Maramec Spring Park, operated by The James Foundation, contains one of the largest springs in Missouri and an ideal location for trout fishing. The Department of Conservation stocks the Spring Branch daily from March thru October. Catch and Release fishing runs from November thru February. While there, be sure to visit the museums and learn about the history of the first successful Ironworks west of the Mississippi River.
Our renovated downtown offers shoppers a day of enjoyment. Specialty stores and restaurants line the downtown area, so there is something for every visitor’s delight.
The St. James Tourist Information Center, located at Exit 195 on I-44, awaits your visit, so please stop by for a current activity listing, information on area resorts and campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, wineries, and merchants.
See you soon,
Myra Ortbals
