District Information:
The St. James Fire Protection District was created by the voters of the area in the April 2006 election. The district combined the St. James Fire Department and the St. James Rural Fire Department. The district is governed by a five member elected board. Board members serve six year terms. Monthly board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the firehouse.
Board of Directors:
John Smallwood, President
Randy Rinehart, Vice President
Reta Wehmeier, Secretary-Treasurer
Dennis Wilson, Member
Mark Davis, Member
The district protects the City of St. James and approximately 250 square miles of Eastern Phelps County and part of the southeast corner of Maries County. Currently the district operates out of one station with plans for additional stations in the future.
Volunteer Firefighters:
The success of the St. James Fire Protection District is the dedication of the men and women who volunteer their time to their community. We are always looking for good volunteers that are looking for a way to give back to their community. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer firefighter please come by the station and pick up an application. Requirements for joining the department are as follows: you must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid Missouri Drivers License and live within the district boundaries.
Training:
The majority of the St. James Firefighters are State Certified through the Missouri Division of Fire Safety. Other training opportunities are courses in CPR and basic first aid, hazardous materials training, vehicle rescue and all areas of fire fighting. Classes are taught through a combination of in house training and through the University of Missouri's Fire & Rescue Training Institute, Missouri Division of Fire Safety and the National Fire Academy.
